Manyam Puli (2016) :

 Screenshots:

Review : Manyam Puli – Good in Parts:

Release date : December 02, 2016
Director : Vysakh
Producer : Krishna Reddy
Music Director : Gopi Sunder
Starring : Mohanlal, Kamalini Mukherjee, Jagapati Babu
Puli Murugan was one film which was a huge hit in Malayalam. The film has been dubbed as Manyam Puli in Telugu and has hit the screens today. Let’s see whether it manages to impress the Telugu audience or not.
Story:-
Puliyooru is a small village which falls under a dense and deadly man-eating tiger area. Things often get tensed as many kids and people keep getting killed by the Tigers living around it.
On the other hand, Kumar(Mohan Lal) is the only man in the village who is capable of fighting the Tigers with his deadly skills. As time passes by, Kumar who is also a lorry driver gets engrossed in a drug case and is forced to leave the village which is already in huge danger.
What happens to his village members now ? Will Kumar come back and save them ? What kind of problems does Kumar face in the city? and where does Jagapathi Babu fit in this setup ? That forms the rest of the story.
Plus Points :-
Action sequences and thrills are the biggest highlights of this flick. There are three terrific sequences involving the Tiger and Mohan Lal which have been designed on a superb note. They are quite thrilling and the background score which comes during this time elevates the film in a stunning way.
The complete credit should go to director Vysakh for showcasing Mohan Lal in such a stunning way. Right from his mass scenes to directing him in the action episodes, the director has done a very clever job as the action episodes never look over the top keeping Mohan Lal’s personality and age in mind.
Kamaleni Mukherjee does a decent job in her role. Jagapathi Babu is apt in his role and does not have much to do in the film. The first half if pretty decent and maintains a good pace.
Minus Points :-
As long as the film is set in the forest, it looks quite interesting. The time it moves to the city, it becomes routine and boring. Even though some scenes are good, the entrance of a local don, hero fighting against a conspiracy, everything looks jaded and side tracks the film completely.
Manyam Puli has the effect of a roller coaster. As long as there are fights and heroism episodes, the film looks top notch. The time family drama and some unnecessary scenes come up, you get irritated a bit.
The length of the film also a bit long and there are some fights which could have been toned down. Namitha’s role looks outright silly and cheap and disturbs the film completely.
Technical Aspects :-
Manyam Puli has some of the best visuals in the recent times. The forests shown and the way scenes are set in a realistic tone bring a huge depth to the film. Camera work by Shaji Kumar is just amazing and the dense jungle and all the hero elevation scenes have been shown in an awesome way. Half of the film’s credit can easily go to Gopi Sundar and his electrifying background score.
Coming to the director Vysakh, the young man should be credited for pulling off an adventure cum commercial film for the most part. He shows huge promise with his interesting storyline and the way he adds enough fanboy moments for all Mohan Lal fans. But sadly he too falls for the commercial trap and is forced to make things routine during the second half. Had he set the film in the village itself and created Jagapathi Babu’s role within that zone, things would have been quite great.
Verdict :-
Manyam Puli worked mainly in Malayalam because of some stunning thrills and Mohan Lal’s massy act which is at its peak here. But from the Telugu audience point of view, this film can be only watched for some amazing thrills which are placed at regular intervals. Having said that, one should go in well prepared to bear the rest of the routine drama which lacks nativity and can get you at times.

REVIEW:

ASSASSIN'S CREED STORY: Using a revolutionary technology that unlocks genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar in 15th century Spain. This video game adaptation delves into a mysterious secret society of assassins with incredible knowledge and skills.

ASSASSIN'S CREED REVIEW: The number of video game movie adaptations that have failed to meet expectations is astounding. It's as if Hollywood simply can't make the transition from console to cinema. 'Assassin's Creed' was touted as the one to break the curse, with big actors attached to the project like Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons. Additionally, the trailer looked promising with sweeping cinematography and complex action choreography which mimicked the frenetic pace and vast set pieces of the free-running, gravity-defying, time-traveling game series.

To its credit, the movie manages to accomplish that. Fassbender's Aguilar showcases lethal skills with his character's trademark concealed knives as he scales buildings and jumps across rooftops leading to some gorgeous fight sequences. The production design is appropriately detailed and the background score does its best to lend some emotion to the action. But instead of focusing on its most intriguing aspects - Aguilar and the assassins in the past, it chooses to invest more time in the present.

The plot revolves around a device that is supposed to end violence across humanity. Exposition tends to be a distracting element in most films, but could have probably enhanced the story here – there’s no explanation of how this device works and when we finally see it in action, it's still baffling. This detracts from an intriguing father- daughter power struggle between Alan Rikkins (Jeremy Irons) and Sofia (Marion Cotillard), which is the most compelling aspect in the film’s present. Even more so than the protagonist Callum Lynch/ Aguilar (Micheal Fassbender), whose motives aren’t made explicitly clear, therefore preventing the audience from being emotionally invested in his journey across time.

Hollywood's current obsession with franchise-building might act as a consolation for fans of the game series who might take a leap of faith in a better constructed sequel. Meanwhile, 'Assassin’s Creed' becomes another exercise in squandering the considerable talents of its cast and crew.

Movie: Singam 3
Rating: 2.75/5
Banner:
 Studio Green
Cast: Suriya, Anushka Shetty, Shruti Haasan, Radhika, Sharad Saxena, Thakur Anoop Singh, Suri, Sharat Babu, Vijay Kumar and others
Cinematography: Priyan
Music: Harris Jayaraj
Editing: V T Vijayan
Fights: Kanal Kannan
Producer: Malkapuram Sivakumar, Gnanavel Raja
Story-Screenplay-Direction: Hari
Release date: Feb 09, 2017
Suriya and Hari have created "Singam" series seven years ago and the franchise has become hugely popular in all languages.
The first movie in the series was successfully remade in Hindi too. So, ever since the third installment was announced, the fans and general audiences have been waiting for its release.
Although the movie got postponed several times, the expectations on the movie have not diminished. So has the third part lived up to the standards set by the earlier parts? Let's find out.
Story:
DCP Narasimham (Suriya), who belongs to AP cadre, is sent to Mangalore city when some gang kills the city's Police Commissioner. As per rule, he cannot work in another state, but he is sent to Mangalore on central deputation.
Narasimham is married to Kavya (Anushka) but he tells everyone that he is divorced so that the gang would leave his wife.
In Mangalore, comes to know about MS Reddy (Sharat Saxena) and his link with Australian businessman Vittal Prasad (Thakur Anoop Singh).
The Australian businessman is dumping all the medical waste and other scrap from Australia in Mangalore. This whole nexus is interlinked with the killing of Police commissioner. How DCP Narasimham cracks the case is the rest of the story.
Artistes’ Performances:
If there is no Suriya, there is no Singam movie. He is the epitome of an angry young cop. As Narasimham aka Singam, he has lived in the role in the earlier versions and he is even more aggressive in this third part too. The movie is completely Suriya's show.
Anushka who was also seen in the earlier two movies has played her continuation part but hers is minor role here. She looks very stout.
Shruti Haasan's is regular masala movie heroine's character that we see in Hari's movies. She has played the journalist role but mostly does what Hansika did in the second part. Radhika and other actors have done their job well.
Technical Excellence:
Major feature of "Singam" movies has been the high-octane action episodes shot with high technical values.
Kanal Kannan’s action stunts are the main strength. He has come up with some good action episodes, while the cinematographer Priyan has filmed them in an equally grand way and those are edited with sharp pace.
The slick editing and rich photography are noticeable. Music by Harris Jayaraj is bad.
Highlights:
Suriya's performance as Singam
Better second half
Classy taking
Racy action episodes
Drawback:
Weak story
Dull first half
Shruti and Anushka both lack appeal
Analysis:
The first and second parts in the "Singam" series have already prepared us what to expect from this third. While the first movie "Yamudu" was 100 percent paisa vasool cop drama, the second instalment was pretty average.
The third part also goes in same way but the racy action episodes and rich visuals in the second half make this movie worth a watch.
Truth be told, there is no dhum in the story at all. But director Hari makes the movie racy, giving us no time to think but enjoy Suriya's action and performance. As always, Surya carries the entire film on his shoulders with his terrific charisma.
Since story is single point - bringing down the Australian businessman, there are no major twists and turns in the screenplay. This has made the movie seem lengthy. Despite typical Tamil style comedy track, it is Suriya who makes the movie interesting.
His aggressive performance, damn fit look, and terrific screen presence score over everything. And the action sequences deserve special mention. The container chase sequences are mind-boggling in the second half. The proceedings post-interval are super-racy.
There are many clap-worthy moments post-interval too. Though overall, the movie is not as gripping as the first part. But if you are fan of Suriya or Singam series, you will not be bored.
The director has completely followed the same template of earlier two movies but he has shot the film with classy production values. Though songs are shot richly, they are not catchy.
On the downside, the movie doesn't have any novelty; it follows the same path of the first two parts. In the second part we have Hansika trying to win the love of Suriya, here Shruti Haasan fills in her shoes.
In earlier part, Suriya goes to some African country hunting the main villain; here he goes to Australia to do the same hunt.
As said earlier, director Hari’s grip in handling action episodes with high technical strength and extracting best output from heroes has helped this movie too. After "Yamudu", Suriya has shown high energy now.
All in all, "Singam 3" works due to never-a-dull-moment in the second half, Surya's excellent and fab performance and Hari's racy narration. This is paisa vasool for Singam lovers.
Bottom-line: Only for Singam!
